The Complex Legacy of Rosa Parks: Part Two
Who was Rosa Parks? Seriously, who was the individual that decided to become involved in the CRM? What were her past experiences? The ramifications of her life immediately after getting arrested? Her hopes for the future? Was she married? Did she have children?
Reader, if you are here for the second half of the Rosa Parks series, thank you for stopping by. After the holidays, I finally have some time with myself, Bishop Jakes, a cup of coffee, my legal pad, and the computer screen. I am not sure what I was thinking when I decided to start a series in the middle of the holidays. This material has been burning inside my brain for a while now and I wanted to get it out.
As a teenager, I used to wonder about Rosa Parks. I knew that she was more than a simple seamstress. Exhaustion does not motivate a person with a home to go to jail! I used to wonder this question: who was Rosa Parks? Now, for the first blog, I focused on Claudette Colvin. However, I put that material forth first, not to diminish Parks’ activism! Casting Parks as a simple seamstress is actually insulting, and I will show you why, Reader.
If you are curious like me, I can assure you that the Library of Congress is your best friend. This section says, “classroom material,” but I find so much for myself.
